The Company
Rathbone Energy is an Environmentally
Conscious Company striving to stay Green since 1989.
Some may promote themselves as
environmentally conscious and friendly but You cannot use nickel cadmium
battery cells and be green, environmentally conscious, environmentally friendly,
or really have a positive carbon footprint.
Recycling Efforts Below, Our Life Style
Products
Batteries
In 1989 we began rebuilding battery packs and reusing all the internal
components possible such as insulators and paper tubes. Because we
rebuild using the very best battery cells available and enhance the
original equipment manufacturers design we were able to take an intended
maximum battery pack life and make it a true carbon footprint by giving
you more discharge cycles and allowing you to continuously rebuild that
same battery case over and over until you have worn out the battery
shell. This was even more important when the primary battery
cell technology was nickel cadmium.
Today Rathbone Energy no longer supports
the manufacture of battery pack assembly, inserts, or rebuilding using
nickel cadmium battery cells. Today facilities are available to
recycle not just the battery cells but also your plastic cases and
internal electronic components.
Now having our own line of lithium ion
broadcast battery packs, Rathbone Energy has phased out battery assembly
and also battery rebuilding using nickel cadmium, no longer supporting
the rebuild of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) nickel cadmium
battery products. Being the only Battery Assembler
Worldwide that supports rebuilding battery packs, we understand that this
will create a hardship on those invested in nickel cadmium products but we offer
our Upgrade and great
alternative.
Battery Analyzers
As for charging technology, Rathbone Energy has always focused our
efforts not on sophisticated smart chargers for multiple battery cell
chemistry's and designed to force the consumer into a monopoly, but on
true analyzers that are upgradeable on the fly, interchangeable mounting
systems, and applicable for many battery cell chemistries including Dry
Cell Lead Acid, Nickel Cadmium, Nickel Metal Hydride, Rechargeable
Lithium Ion, and future changes in those chemistry's as well as future
battery cell technology. In 2007 we applied our knowledge to a
partnership that is now the standard for security areas we cannot
advertise.
We have always promoted recycling by
promoting rebuilding your battery packs reusing the insulator washers
and paper tubes insulators and re-welding the plastic cases back
together.
Packing and Shipping
We have never used Styrofoam containers
for packaging or shipping.
1993: We replaced paper mailers and
promotional flyers with 3.5" Disk. We have run seven business card
size magazine ads since that time and will run no more.
Later in 1993: We went to the Internet and
stopped generating 3.5" Disk, flyers and mailers by 100%..
2007: We began generating PDF files of
sales orders, invoices, and shipping labels and using email rather than
a printer so that the client has his/her paperwork in a PDF file on
his/her computer instead of a dead tree, paper, and toner.
Basic Recycling
We have always recycled aluminum cans,
brochures, cardboard, computer equipment, glass, light bulbs,
newspapers, plastic bottles, and a never ending list in a throw away
society. Being "Environmentally Conscious" and "Please Recycle"
have always been on our products, containers, all the way back to the
days of rubber stamps.
Energy Conservation
We are now in our replacement building.
We do not own the building but are working towards making it a
historical site and watching for grant money to make the facility green.
At the moment it is definitely not energy efficient in any way but it is
over 70 years old and sits on the original Stokleys Canning Company
site and just a few miles from the original Bushes Canning company site.
RoHS Compliance:
In-house rebuilding and new assembly have
been 100% compliant since 2005. We continue to strive for 100%
compliance in product manufactured for us outside our facility.
Battery Cell Recycling: We
have a PDF on this that has been on our web site for years as well as an
html file on our main web site: Ihttp://www.rathboneenergy.com/batteries/broadcast/battery_answers_env_consc.htm
In 2008 we announced:
First Our Position On Nickel Cadmium Batteries PDF
*Nickel Cadmium battery cells are environmentally
unfriendly. Thanks to
International Environmental Concerns and the good laws of other countries,
our battery cell manufacturers have already started to phase nickel cadmium
from their manufacturing lines. Panasonic did so four years ago. You
cannot use nickel cadmium battery cells and be green or promote yourself as
environmentally friendly.

And since we no longer rebuild nickel cadmium we have
provided a contact to reduce duplication of shipping cost. If you only
have a few dead nickel cadmium batteries you can always stop by your local
Home Depot, Lowes, or Radio Shack and drop them off.
