Special Safety Precautions Warning for
Your Hytron 50 Battery Pack or Rebuild and a Warning (1.3)
At Rathbone Energy, Inc., we
strive to improve safety.
For example:
- Wiring:
- We disconnect ONLY the
positive and negative terminal from the dead insert and then
connect the positive and negative terminal back to the new insert
and add fire retardant heat shrink tube insulators over the weld
tabs.
- We test each packs voltage
through the pin connectors and finally on
Anton Bauer Quad 2702 InterActive chargers with the DDM before shipping back to
you.
- Regarding Your Hytron 50 batteries that have or have not been
recelled. Our desire here is not to offend the manufacturer of a fine
battery pack, only for everyone's safety to make you aware of certain
issues .
- IF THIS BATTERY EVER GOES INTO A HOLD POSITION
- Corrosion on the brass\gold contacts of the battery may
cause your battery to read "HOLD" when placed on the charger.
Try cleaning these contacts, place the battery back on the charger
and try again.
- IF CLEANING THE CONTACTS DOES NOT REMOVE THE "HOLD" READING FROM
THE CHARGER OR THE BATTERY BEGINS TO ACT, "DIFFERENT or UNUSUAL", WATCH THE BATTERY CAREFULLY AND ABSOLUTELY
DO NOT LEAVE UNATTENDED ON YOUR ANTON BAUER CHARGER!
- THIS BATTERY HAS NO EXTERNAL GLASS FUSES AND NO INTERNAL
GLASS OR ONE SHOT FUSES. ONLY THERMAL SENSORS.
- IF IT EVER DOES BEGIN TO ACT "DIFFERENT" PAY ATTENTION FOR
SMELLS OF MELTING HOT GLUE OR EXCESSIVE HEAT EMITTING FROM THE
SHELL.
- If, for whatever reason, your Hytron 50, 100 Series, or Digital
ProPac Series battery stops
communicating properly with Your Anton Bauer InterActive charger
then DO NOT EVER place that questionable battery back on that brand
charger!!
- If it is under the Anton Bauer 3 year OEM pro-rate warranty then
immediately call Anton Bauer.
- If it is not under warranty you may call Anton Bauer or you
may call us with questions.
- If the battery was at some point recelled by us please
contact us immediately for consultation or direction which is
also listed below.
- If your Hytron 50 was rebuilt by us within 60 days of the
issue we will
offer to move the insert into another of Your shells at No
charge. After 60 days there is a nominal $35.00 labor fee.
- Our other recommendation will be to clip the wires going to
specific contacts which allow recognition by the InterActive
charger. This will prevent that battery from being
recognized by an Anton Bauer charger if ever placed on one by
accident.
- Purchase a PAG or Cadex analyzer from Rathbone Energy, Inc. See below.
- If, for whatever reason, Your Anton Bauer Hytron 50, 100 Series,
or Digital ProPac Series circuitry ever does
stop communicating properly with your Anton Bauer InterActive
charger you may still safely charge that battery properly on a PAG
or Cadex analyzer and it will continue to operate your equipment
just fine.
- The pin connectors that allow an Anton Bauer charger to
recognize that Hytron 50, 100 Series, or Digital ProPac Series battery should definitely be clipped from
the board inside the shell. This will prevent any possibility
of anyone ever accidentally placing that battery back on an Anton
Bauer charger yet you can still charge that battery on a PAG or
Cadex analyzer. Then use your camera default for view finder
readings.
- There are a few reasons why that battery might, at some point,
stop communicating properly with the original charger. This
and the Dionic 90 are very fragile battery packs and We only
list a couple of points on the Hytron 50.
- Dirty contacts, easily resolved.
- Bad thermal sensor but usually a thermal sensor simply not
communicating information within the parameters of that AB
charger. We are not charging for circuit board work so this is not something we will resolve. We
will move your good insert into another of Your dead battery
shells.
- Defective chip on the board, not something we will resolve.
We will move your good insert into another of Your dead battery
shells.
- For whatever reason, these events can happen to this battery
if it has been rebuilt or if it has not been rebuilt.
- About 12% of the packs we rebuild will not communicate
properly with an Anton Bauer InterActive charger immediately
after being recelled by us. In those cases we offer to
- Move the new insert to another of the clients shell
- We are not
charging for circuit board work and will not agree to start
flip flopping your parts from multiple circuit boards.
- If the client has or purchases a PAG or Cadex charger we
clip the proper wires to prevent recognition of that
recelled Hytron 50 by an InterActive charger.
- We remove the new insert from the recelled Hytron 50 and
do not charge you for a recell.
- Only if requested by the client we will return the empty
shell to you for the cost of freight or by using your
freight account number.
- Cell Tubing:
- Fiber Tubes-Required (The
battery inserts for some batteries will not fit into the old case if
paper tubes are used.):
We require the manufacturers PVC shrink tube to be on all cells to
verify we have used the cells we state in our specifications. We
then enclose those manufacturers brand labeled PVC shrink covered
cells with fiber tubes
for added safety. Pictures below show why we use fiber
tubes and top and bottom fiber insulators instead! Pictures may be enlarged with a
click for a cleaner picture. Hoover 3 seconds to read picture text information.
-

- We add fiber insulators
covering the entire top and bottom of the battery packs and weld
tabs after each pack is finished.
Our old 4AH insert for a dead Hytron 50 shown in picture.
- The cell manufacturers Brand
labeled PVC shrink IS required on all cells before being enclosed
in fiber tubes. This is to verify that the cell we purchase
and the cell you receive are exactly what we and you have
purchased.
- If you see bare cells in
generic PVC sleeves or fiber tubes the chances are very high that
you are probably Not getting what you were told.
Battery Cell Switch &
Bait
- Amateur Work Examples
- Cells:
- For example: The Anton Bauer
New Video Handbook discusses press negative, sintered on sinter,
and heavily porous battery cells.
- The Anton Bauer Hytron 50 series
nickel metal hydride battery pack uses the Sanyo HR-4-3AU4000 Ni-MH
cell. This is the industry standard cell for that battery pack.
- At Rathbone Energy, Inc., we use
the Sanyo HR-4/3FAU4500 for improved capacity, durability, performance, charge-discharge
cycles, and heat tolerance, when doing a recell of these battery
packs.
- At Rathbone Energy, Inc., we
also supply links to All the major brand battery manufacturers
cell specifications for each particular battery so you can see
for yourselves the actual cell specifications available.
- Avoid Harsh Mechanical Shock
of Your Battery
- Do Not Drop Your Battery
- Note the temperature
precautions listed on your battery

Additional Disclaimer:
There are always variables on the routine of your battery packs and
you are not watching them every single second.
We live in a highly legalistic society.
We are little and
privately financed. We take pride in our high quality work
and product. Accidents happen. Try to take care of your quality merchandise and
it will last you a long time.
From the bottom of our warranty page:
We reserve the right to interpret any and all conditions and
situations listed and those not here listed in such a manner as we
deem appropriate. Under no circumstances shall we be liable
for any injury, loss, damage, or expense suffered or incurred with
respect to any defective or non-defective product or use of that
product.
Our warranty is so specific because
over the years a few broadcast and production people took advantage
of us like we were a free rental house or like we have seen some do
large retail companies such as Wal-Mart. Some of these are
your colleagues in the profession and are also the reason we do
not offer a 38 month warranty.
Consider:
We have seen so many
broadcast / film battery rebuilding companies close, much later,
even years later, open again, or come back under a different name, silently
close again, and then close
again. They always come back with a crafty spin, gimmicks, cheap
prices, and plugging brand names while using cheap cells.
We know because when you have problems later we get your calls.
Through all of our own challenges we have kept our doors open
faithfully for your business since 1989. Our FAQ sheets supply you
with total detail on every item we assemble and specifications for
every cell available as well as what to look for in a good vendor
and a bad vendor.
